Thoughts & Reflections

It’s been a year of happiness and sorrow.  It started with a late freeze which effected the bloom of our first year seedlings and many other plants in the garden.  Since we weren’t able to evaluate accurately last season we have held all of them for evaluation this year.  This year will be a challenge to make selections from 2 years worth of seedlings.  We hope many of you will come visit us at the garden and help with the process.  It’s always nice to have other people comment on them.  Heidi  bloomed her first large crop of seedlings and many were flagged to keep along with Gene’s and Charles’.

2007 certainly was a busy year for Browns Ferry Gardens.  We were honored to be invited to speak to many daylily clubs across the nation.  Heidi and I enjoy meeting all the members and visiting their gardens.  We also attended the MidWinter Symposium in Chattanooga, the Cleveland Symposium, Northern Mecca, The National Convention in Minnesota and to top off the year Heidi and I were married the day after Thanksgiving at Disney World.

On a sad note, we lost a very good friend.  Alice Poston was our first employee and we really considered her family.  Her permanent smile and stories will be missed!

On a happy note, I was pleased to win two Honorable Mentions from the AHS for Pick of The Litter and Bold Secrets.  One of our goals is to create flowers that do well across the country and these awards are a symbol of our success.  Thank you AHS garden judges.

Our 14th annual open house is June 7th and 8th.  We hope you will come and see the display of thousands of daylilies in bloom and enjoy some food and drink and the people that make our passion special.  We enjoy talking to everyone about daylilies and if you would like to speak with us feel free to call us anytime.  You can always reach Amy at the garden, but since Heidi and I are not there every day please feel free to call us at 843-546-6419 any evening.  We love to talk about daylilies!

We are looking forward to another great season with lots of new daylilies in the garden from hybridizers all over the country and we are looking forward to meeting many of you!
